Down Under

On October 16th until April 23rd 2017, I together with an excellent entertainment team assisted by former Judo champion turned musical theatre starlet Katy Syrett delivered our extensive entertainment programme to our lovely guests travelling aboard Cruise and Maritime´s MV Astor.

Travelling from a blustery Tilbury we arrived in Australia via the Caribbean and French Polynesian islands, to find the sun shining and the good folk of Fremantle just like their weather warm and hospitable.

We cruised along the coast of Australia, marvelling at sights like a Stonehenge replica in Esperance, sun kissed beaches of Perth and a wildlife reserve where we saw Kangaroos for the first time in our lives, in Bunbury. We learned Aussie talk, such as G´day,  fancy a tinny and yeah I´m stoked meaning I am so happy!

We had a lovely greek Captain, the legendary Captain Psrakkis who insisted on singing at his cocktail party to the loving receptive audience. After announcing his retirement, he was replaced by a youthful yet highly experienced and superb master, Captain Andrey Lesnichiy who from the Ukraine can do a mean Liverpool "Scouse" accent!

Well all in all our lovely cruise ship The "Friendship" Astor brought us home safely with wonderful memories of a land down under where so many British have made their homes.

I can see why with the climate, healthcare, friendliness, culture and good beer, but for me it´s good to be home enjoying a pint, a pie and a good old rest, time to relax and reflect on what was a life changing wonderful experience.
